For the Twiglets–#24

The Girl With Delicate Ears

It’s silly to ask, but
there was a painting I saw
once somewhere, so beautiful.
Do you know it? The painter?
There was a girl in a room.
She was doing something
lady-like, like crewel work.
She was wearing a dress.
It was a beautiful dress
with rich, rich colors like
jewels on everyday velvet.
Her hands were beautiful, like
two pink shells
and her delicate ear,
a whorled shell.
I can’t remember the name,
where I saw it or why.
Her face was so serene. Like
a Madonna or Chinese courtesan,
but ordinary. American. Does
that sound familiar to you?
I’d love to see it again.
